Academic Marketing Projects

Marketing, Advertising & PR at Grand Valley State University

My marketing education gave me the chance to work on real client projects, research, campaigns, business strategy, creative work, and presentations long before I started Cherry Rosa.

I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and a minor in Advertising & Public Relations. My coursework included Integrated Marketing Communications, Consumer Behavior, Advertising, Digital Marketing, Sports Marketing, and Public Relations Campaigns.

Here are some of the projects and experiences that helped shape the way I think about marketing today.

Public Relations Campaign

Public Relations Campaign

For a semester long Public Relations Campaigns project, my team worked with the GVSU Tutoring and Reading Center as a real client.

We conducted research and stakeholder interviews, identified communication challenges, and developed campaign objectives, messaging, strategies, and tactics. The project ended with a comprehensive PR campaign plan and presentation of our recommendations to the client.

This experience gave me the opportunity to work through the entire campaign planning process, from research and strategy to the creative ideas used to bring that strategy to life.

Entrepreneurship & Small Business

Entrepreneurship & Small Business

For a semester long entrepreneurship project, my team developed and evaluated a new business concept from the ground up.

We identified customer pain points, researched the market, worked through the value proposition and competitive positioning, and used the Lean Canvas framework to develop the business model.

It gave me an early look at marketing from the business owner's perspective and how decisions around customers, positioning, competition, and value all connect.

Marketing Research

Marketing Research

For a semester long marketing research project, my team worked with Alessia Capelli Salon as a real world client.

We conducted research to better understand the market, consumer behavior, brand awareness, and opportunities for the salon to reach new clientele. We then turned those findings into strategic recommendations and presented them to the client.

This project was a great example of something I still believe strongly today. Good marketing decisions start with understanding the audience.

Video Creation

For a university project centered around Kids' Food Basket, I created a highlight video documenting our team's volunteer experience.

The video captured the experience and the organization's community impact and became the visual centerpiece of our final presentation.

This was one of the experiences that helped grow my interest in using photography and video as part of a larger marketing story.

Professional Experience During College

Professional Experience During College

My learning was never limited to the classroom.

During college, I also gained hands on experience with the United Shore Professional Baseball League, where I worked with promotions and game day operations, supported fan facing activations, managed the Kids Club table, helped promote membership and email sign ups, and supported community outreach.

Those experiences gave me a completely different look at marketing through live events, promotions, community relationships, and direct interaction with customers.

Leadership & Campus Involvement

Leadership & Campus Involvement

Some of my biggest learning experiences also came from leadership.

Through Sigma Kappa, I served as Activities Chair and later Vice President of Communications & Operations. I also served as a Rho Gamma during Fall 2025 recruitment.

Those roles gave me experience with communication, events, organization, leadership, problem solving, and working with a lot of different personalities, all skills I still bring into my work today.

From the Classroom to Cherry Rosa

Looking back, these projects are where a lot of the way I approach marketing started.

Research the audience. Understand the problem. Set the objective. Think strategically. Then figure out the best and most creative way to communicate it.

I have learned a lot since then, and I plan to keep learning, but that foundation is still at the center of how I approach my work today.
